We ACT Day 2020: Chiesi’s global event for a sustainable future return

This year, all of the Chiesi Group’s affiliates, employees, communities and the company’s partners have attended a virtual edition of the event to confirm Chiesi’s commitment towards people, the community and the environment. “We Act” is a term coined by Chiesi in 2018 for its own programme aimed at raising awareness and involving all of its employees to develop a more conscious way of behaving, so as to generate a positive impact on society and the environment.

Chiesi has once again celebrated We ACT Day: We Actively Care for Tomorrow, which was held during the global mobilisation week dedicated to climate change. Maria Paola Chiesi, Shared Value & Sustainability Head of the Chiesi Group: “In spite of the difficulties we have had to face over recent months due to the pandemic, I am delighted to once again celebrate We Act Day. It is a significant moment for our Company, particularly as it is a Benefit Company and certified B Corp committed year-round to creating wellbeing for people, society and the planet.”.

We ACT Day (24th-25th September) was held throughout all of the group’s 29 affiliates and involved employees, institutional representatives from the area and the academic world and also associations. September the 25th was the date chosen as it coincides with the anniversary of the creation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which Chiesi has also adopted by committing to 9 of the goals it believes it can make the most significant contribution to.

The 2020 edition was held via Live Streaming for all of Chiesi’s employees in Italy but is celebrated across the rest of the Group with local projects. This is so that it will comply with the restrictions currently in place for the Covid-19 pandemic. There were four sessions relating to issues closely linked to the sustainability programme which Chiesi has introduced over the years: Community, Carbon Neutrality, Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) and Patients.

In 2019 Chiesi announced its intention of achieving carbon neutrality by the end of 2035. In this year’s edition of We Act Day, a session therefore also was dedicated to Environment & Carbon Neutrality, to gain an in-depth understanding of issues relating to environmental sustainability and energy policies, along with a series of best practices aimed at Carbon Neutrality.

The Community session addressed this year’s health and social emergency and the path to recovery, an issue which is especially significant in light of “Parma Capital for Culture 2020 + 21”. It will be a journey through the city of Parma and the local province to get to know the institutions and organisations that have been on the front line during the Covid-19 emergency. In addition, we will discover and enhance the value of the chemical-pharmaceutical identity of the Parma community, a cultural wealth which intertwines with the Group’s past and present.

Discussions moved on to Diversity & Inclusion, two words which pave the way for a new way of interpreting work. With the help of Valentina Dolciotti, editor and founder of DiverCity Magazine, we will analyse the real meaning of D&I, focussing on Chiesi’s diversities, female leadership and generational differences.
