Transplantation

During a transplant, a patient's poorly or non-functioning organ is replaced by that of a donor. Organs that can be transplanted include the kidneys, the lungs, the liver and the heart.

Organ transplantation has a major impact on the patient's life. This surgery greatly improves the quality of life for most patients. After transplant, patients must remain under the physician's control for a long time and they need medication for the rest of their lives in order to prevent graft rejection.

The medication given to patients helps suppressing the immune system to prevent transplant rejection. Further treatment of transplant patients focuses on a healthy lifestyle: sports, healthy eating, non smoking, etc.

Chiesi has been active in the field of transplantation in the Netherlands since 2015.
